All groups are required to present a tax exempt letter or they will be responsible for tax. All schools are required to bring a minimum of 10 paying guests.
Our school workshop classes are designed to correspond with the Illinois State Curriculum to introduce or reinforce classroom concepts. Subjects such as Art, Mathematics and Science come alive in the colorful world of LEGO®.

Subjects covered: Science and Architecture
The Tall Towers Workshop is intended to introduce young learners to the world of architecture. Students will participate in DUPLO® building challenges intended to teach them the importance of teamwork and communication. Tall Towers provides a classroom setting where participants learn of early elementary science and mathematics. Our instructor will also cover construction principals, natural and man-made structures in their world, and the effects of natural disasters on tall buildings.

Subjects covered: Color and Pattern Recognition and Fine Motor Skills Coordination
Tall Towers Jr. is a hands-on workshop that helps participants learn how to follow directions, recognize shapes and patters, and develop fine motor skills. Participants build LEGO® towers of various shapes, colors, and patterns. A fun, hands-on way to introduce young learners to classroom instruction.
Recommended Ages: 9-12 years old
Subjects covered: Math and Physics
The Race Car Workshop is a fun, hands-on way to get students excited about mathematics and introduce them to elementary physics. Students build LEGO® race cars, race them down our track, collect data and use arithmetic to calculate their car’s performance. Students also learn about the forces that affect their cars and use this information to create lean racing machines.

The Chicago Skyline Workshop is a unique, interactive guided tour through MINILAND Chicago. Participants will learn how the history of Chicago shaped its world-famous skyline. Afterward, students are challenged to think critically about designing a new building for Chicago in a hands-on classroom setting.

The Pablo Picasso workshop is a class that introduces participants to the artistic possibilities of LEGO® bricks. Using Pablo Picasso’s Chicago’s Daley Center sculpture as a starting point, students will make their own unique, original LEGO sculptures and will use mathematics to figure out how to create a large scale model of their original sculpture.

The Balancing Act workshop is a fun, creative way to teach children how shape, size and weight influence a structure’s ability to remain standing as more pieces are added. In our education rooms, students are tasked to come up with multiple solutions to this entertaining challenge!

Subjects covered: Communication
This class is all about communication! During this workshop, each student is challenged to create their own LEGO model, keeping it obscured from their classmates as they build. Students are then put into pairs and with their LEGO model still hidden from their partner and using only verbal instruction, they have to lead their partner in creating an exact replica of the LEGO model.

During this workshop, students participate in exciting building challenges intended to introduce learners to the creation of large scale structures with DUPLO® bricks. Students will be encouraged to work as a team and communicate with their fellow classmates to reach a common goal while testing their architectural design to see if their team’s bridge can withstand the weight of additional objects.

The LEGO® Animal Workshop is a fun, engaging guided tour though the Jungle Expedition. Using your field guide, can you spot the different kinds of animals and identify what makes each of them unique? Then try your hand at creating your own DUPLO animal to show your classmates.

LEGOLAND® Discovery Center invites Illinois and surrounding Homeschool states to reserve a field trip on select Mondays and Wednesdays this Winter and Spring.
For just $8 per person you receive admission to the Center and an educational workshop. Families must register individually. Due to high demand, payment is due at time of booking.

Can’t make it to LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Chicago? Then we’ll come to you! Our goal is to provide you with a fun-filled memorable experience.
Outreach Programs last 1 hour and accommodates up to 30 children. Participants will work in groups of 2 – 4 children.
