School Trips

LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Chicago is the perfect destination for a fun, colorful and educational field trip for students Pre-K through 6th Grade. Our exclusive LEGO® educational workshops correspond with Illinois Common Core Standards.

At this time, we are fully booked for school and group field trips through June 13, 2014. 


2014 Summer Field Trips

Prices for summer visits start at $9 per person. field trips must be booked in advance by submitting a SUMMER Registration Form. Pricing, terms, and payment requirements are listed on the form. Space is limited and based on first-come/first serve basis. Suggested registration time is 30+ days prior to the field trip date, but where possible we will do our best to accommodate your group.


Our school workshop classes are designed to correspond with the Illinois Common Core Standards. Subjects such as Art, Mathematics and Science come alive in the colorful world of LEGO®.

LEGOLAND Discovery Center Workshops are only available to schools.

DUPLO® Tall Towers

Recommended Grade Level: 1st Grade
Subjects covered: Science and Architecture

The Tall Towers Workshop is intended to introduce young learners to the world of architecture.  Students will participate in DUPLO® building challenges intended to teach them the importance of teamwork and communication. Tall Towers provides a classroom setting where participants learn of early elementary science and mathematics. Our instructor will also cover construction principals, natural and man-made structures in their world, and the effects of natural disasters on tall buildings.

DUPLO® Tall Towers Junior

Recommended Grade Level: Preschool - Kindergarten
Subjects covered: Color and Pattern Recognition and Fine Motor Skills Coordination

Tall Towers Jr. is a hands-on workshop that helps participants learn how to follow directions, recognize shapes and patters, and develop fine motor skills. Participants build LEGO® towers of various shapes, colors, and patterns. A fun, hands-on way to introduce young learners to classroom instruction.

DUPLO® Story Telling

Recommended Grade Level: Preschool – Kindergarten
Subjects Covered: Language Arts and Listening Skills

In the Story Telling workshop students will read with an instructor a DUPLO Story Telling book. During the workshop children will build and discuss different aspects of the story with their class, using DUPLO as their medium. A fun, hands-on way to introduce young learners to class room instruction.

LEGO® Racecar Workshop

Recommended Grade Level: 5th - 6th Grade
Subjects covered: Math and Physics

The Race Car Workshop is a fun, hands-on way to get students excited about mathematics and introduce them to elementary physics. Students build LEGO® race cars, race them down our track, collect data and use arithmetic to calculate their car’s performance.  Students also learn about the forces that affect their cars and use this information to create lean racing machines.

LEGO® Chicago Skyline Tour

Recommended Grade Level: 3rd - 4th Grade
Subjects covered: History and Architecture

The Chicago Skyline Workshop is a unique, interactive guided tour through MINILAND Chicago. Participants will learn how the history of Chicago shaped its world-famous skyline. Afterward, students are challenged to think critically about designing a new building for MINILAND in a hands-on classroom setting.

LEGO® Artisrt Workshop

Recommended Grade Level: 3rd - 4th Grade
Subjects covered: Art and Mathematics

The Artist workshop is a class that introduces participants to the artistic possibilities of LEGO® bricks. Using sculpture examples around LEGOLAND® Discovery Center as a starting point, students will make their own unique, original LEGO sculptures and will use mathematics to figure out how to create a large scale model of their original sculpture.

DUPLO® Bridge Workshop

Recommended Grade Level: 2nd Grade
Subjects covered: Science and Manthmatics

During this workshop, students participate in exciting building challenges intended to introduce learners to the creation of large scale structures with DUPLO® bricks.  Students will be encouraged to work as a team and communicate with their fellow classmates to reach a common goal while testing their architectural design to see if their team’s bridge can withstand the weight of additional objects.

Homeschool Days

LEGOLAND® Discovery Center invites Homeschool families to take advantge of our LEGO® Educational experience.

  • The Homeschool rate is $7.00 per person
  • Families must register individually
  • These rates are valid between the dates of September 3, 2013 - May 23, 2014
  • Check-in hours are between 12:00pm and 3:00pm
  • Monday - Friday Only*

*Homeschool rates are not valid on holidays, weekends, school days off or winter/spring breaks.

How it works:

  • Please contact the Group Sales office to receive a registration form prior to your visit at
  • The registration form will act as your discount voucher. Please present it to the Admission Desk on the day of your visit.
  • Payment is taken on the day.
  • When you arrive, you will receive a Homeschool Worksheet to complete during your visit. Subjects covered include: Chicago History, Animals, Mathematics, and the effects weather has on man-made structures (We recommend bringing a calculator and pencil).

Homeschool Group Bookings:

If you are interested in booking a homeschool group of 10 or more paying guests, you do qualify to register as a School and can schedule an education workshop with your visit. You may complete a booking by using the School Registration Form. Please keep in mind when booking as a school you must abide by all school booking terms and condiditions listed on the registration form.

Outreach Program

Outreach Programs

Can’t make it to LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Chicago? Then we’ll come to you! Our goal is to provide you with a fun-filled memorable experience.

Outreach Programs last 1 hour and accommodates up to 30 children. Participants will work in groups of 2 – 4 children.

Programs are available for the following organizations:

Tall Towers Jr. Workshop

This hands-on workshop helps children learn how to follow directions, recognize shapes and patterns and develop fine motor skills. Children will build LEGO® towers of various shapes, colors and patterns.

Pablo Picasso Workshop

Learn the artistic ability of LEGO bricks. Participants will make their own unique LEGO sculpture and will use mathematics to figure out how to create and build a large-scale model of their original sculpture.

Bridge Workshop

Participants will work in teams to reach a common goal while testing their architectural design to see if their team’s LEGO bridge can withstand the weight of additional objects.

Race Car Workshop

Participants will build a series of LEGO race cars, race them on a track, collect data and find out how fast their creation went.

Outreach programs are available within a 30 mile radius of LEGOLAND Discovery Center and/or within about a 1 hour drive time.


What kind of opportunities does LEGOLAND Discovery Center offer for school groups?

LEGOLAND Discovery Center offers a free educational workshop with every school visit. Each workshop lasts 45 minutes and can accommodate 25 students at a time.

How do I plan my field trip?

We will provide you with a Preparation Guide to assure you are ready for your visit.


What is the process for scheduling a field trip?

Please request a reservation by submitting a School Registration Form. A representative from our offices will contact you to confirm your requested date.


How many chaparones are required for school groups?

We require one chaperone for every 5 paying students.

What happens after I register?

The group sales office at LEGOLAND Discovery Center Chicago will try to schedule your trip and workshop for the first chosen date. If that date is not available, they will move to your second choice. You will receive a confirmation via email informing you of your date, arrival time and workshop or lunch times.

When do I need to pay?

A 50% deposit is required 14 days before your field trip. Final payment is due on the day of the field trip. If you wish to pay for the whole trip in advance you may.

How long should I plan to be at the Center for my field trip?

Schools have up to 3 hours in the center.

Where should we go when we arrive at LEGOLAND Discovery Center?

Buses can pull up to the front doors. We ask that only the group leader come inside to give a final head count and final payment to LDC staff. Once this is taken care of children can enter the center.

Where should buses park while they wait?

Buses can park in the east end of the parking lot or by Dicks Sporting Goods store. Parking is free.

What are the lunch options?

Students booked for the Value Package will be guaranteed a lunch space. If you do not have a lunch booked though LEGOLAND Discovery Center and are brown-bagging it, café seating is on a first-com/first-served basis. All adult chaperones are responsible for their own lunch purchases from the café.
