LEGOLAND® DISCOVERY CENTER WESTCHESTER MAKES A “SMASHING” DEBUT!

15th April, 2013

LEGOLAND® DISCOVERY CENTER WESTCHESTER MAKES A "SMASHING" DEBUT WITH HELP FROM LOVABLE MASCOT "BERTIE," YONKERS MAYOR MIKE SPANO, WESTCHESTER COUNTY EXECUTIVE ROB ASTORINO, FOREST CITY RATNER COMPANIES CHAIRMAN/CEO BRUCE RATNER AND OTHER OFFICIALS DURING GRAND OPENING CEREMONY AT RIDGE HILL IN YONKERS

On Wednesday, March 27, a beautiful, sunny spring morning, our lovable mascot Bertie helped us make a "smashing" debut during our grand opening ceremony.  We were also joined by Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano, Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino, Forest City Ratner Companies (FCRC) Chairman/CEO Bruce Ratner, Merlin Entertainments executive James Burleigh and LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Westchester General Manager Chris Mines, who addressed a crowd of regional officials and eager LEGO® fans anxiously waiting for our doors to open!

Offering a novel alternative to a ribbon-cutting ceremony, the event concluded with a countdown climaxing with Bertie smashing through a 7’ x 10’ wall constructed of colorful LEGO bricks—effectively opening the doors to the public for the first time.

Leading the crowds into the attraction, Mayor Spano and other ceremony participants experienced some LEGO-inspired fun of their own when they were joined by members of our Junior Construction Panel for an inaugural ride on Merlin's Apprentice.

All in all, kids big and small had a fun day, full of LEGO enjoyment
