LEGOLAND Discovery Center Chicago is located in Schaumburg at the Streets of Woodfield, 25 miles from downtown Chicago.
Located on the shores of Lake Michigan, Chicago boasts some of the best sports teams in the country, along with being a world class dining and shopping destination. There are also plenty of family friendly museums and visitor attractions.
Here are a few of our favourite things to do in Chicago:
Attracting 8.6 million visitors each year, Navy Pier offers many of the top things to do in Chicago in one stunning lakeside location.
With views of Lake Michigan, the 50 acre complex is home to many family attractions including the Children’s Museum, Segway Tours and Pier Park’s Ferris Wheel. Or if you’re feeling adventurous, why not take a speed boat trip and explore Lake Michigan! The lake gets very cold and icy in the winter, so we recommend keeping a visit to Navy Pier as a Spring/Summer activity.
Chicago is lucky enough to have some of the best museums in the whole of the United States. We love the Field Museum, especially Sue – the largest and best preserved Tyrannosaurus Rex ever found!
And right next to the Field Museum is Shedd Aquarium, the largest indoor aquarium in the world. Both attractions are located on the museum campus, right on the lake front – this is also a great location to take photographs of the Chicago cityscape. Check out this photo of Bertie (the LEGOLAND Discovery Center mascot) on the lake front – you can see Shedd Aquarium and the Chicago skyline in the background.
If you like shopping, head to the Magnificent Mile! Recently voted as one of the top ten shopping destinations in the world, here you’ll find department stores such as Bloomingdale’s, Nordstrom, and Barneys New York, as well as some of the fanciest luxury boutiques.
Our favourite shop is of course the LEGO store! Located at Water Tower Place, this is the best place to find all the latest LEGO sets and exclusive LEGO Chicago souvenirs. Outside the LEGO store there is a 9 x 20 foot LEGO mosaic of the Chicago skyline – very cool!

We had a 7th birthday party for our son Tyler at Legoland on Sunday January 17, 2013. It was our first time at the facility. The kids loved the place. The staff was excellent, my hats off to Brie, Sara, and EB. Brie was concierge and greeted us at the door. EB was our party host, she provided exceptional service. All three attended to all of our needs and added to the fun. Thank-you! The only drawback would be that Legoland can get crazy with thirteen 6 and 7 year olds on a busy weekend. Also, remember to bring cash to tip the staff as you cannot add a tip to your credit card. I will definitely recommend to others and we will visit again as our kids loved Legoland!
