Starting at LEGOLAND Discovery Center Chicago can be an amazing experience for your children before enjoying some of our favorite things to do in Chicago, listed below.
Marked by a locally famous 13 foot LEGO giraffe, LEGOLAND Discovery Center Chicago offers a variety of fun and instructional activities geared for all children ages 3-10! Toddlers and elementary school children alike can sit in awe as they view life-size LEGO models, take a picture with a LEGO tiger, see our Master Model Builder’s workshop and watch a quick 4D movie. Both age groups will be able to explore our latest attraction, Pirate Adventure Island, along with Racers Build & Test area, which is always a favorite.
DUPLO Village was created especially for tots and younger children who build best in small nooks with larger LEGO bricks. Children with more advanced motor skills can drop in to the Model Builder Academy for a guided workshop. These classes are offered at select times during the day, or by request depending upon the time of year.
While our Center is geared for children, parents will take delight in immersing their children in a colorful world to learn and play. With plenty of LEGO building and photo opportunities, families can experience the Center together while capturing the moment. Feel free to ask any of our friendly staff for assistance! Adults can also download the Center’s app for themed photo frames and additional activities.
Parking facilities and food options are also stress-free. Easily access our Center by parking in the free lot or free parking facility (across from AMC Loews Streets of Woodfield 20). Our Café offers small snacks, sandwiches and salads. Outside food is not permitted, but since one of the largest malls in America is across the street, there are plenty of local establishments nearby! Enjoy quick bites at Chipotle or Jersey Mike’s Subs right next door, or head to Woodfield Mall for a sit-down establishment such as Rainforest Café. If visiting during the spring or summer, you can also opt for a family picnic near the Center.
LEGOLAND Discovery Center Chicago is located in Schaumburg at the Streets of Woodfield, 25 miles from downtown Chicago. After experiencing our Center, your family can have an excellent day in the city by following up with some of these nearby attractions:
Attracting 8.6 million visitors each year, Navy Pier offers many of the top things to do in Chicago in one stunning lakeside location.
With views of Lake Michigan, the 50 acre complex is home to many family attractions including the Children’s Museum, Segway Tours and more. Or if you’re feeling adventurous, why not take a speed boat trip and explore Lake Michigan? The lake gets very cold and icy in the winter, so we recommend keeping a visit to Navy Pier as a spring/summer activity.
Chicago is lucky enough to have some of the best museums in the whole of the United States. We love the Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium, and Adler Planetarium.
All of these attractions are located on the museum campus, right on the lake. This is also a great location to take pictures of your family in front of the Chicago skyline. Check out this photo of Bertie (the LEGOLAND Discovery Center mascot) on the lake front – you can see Shedd Aquarium and Chicago in the background.
If you like shopping, head to the Magnificent Mile! Recently voted as one of the top ten shopping destinations in the world, here you’ll find department stores such as Bloomingdale’s, Nordstrom, and Barneys New York, as well as some of the fanciest luxury boutiques.
Our favorite shop is the LEGO store, of course! Located at Water Tower Place, this is the best place to find all the latest LEGO sets and exclusive LEGO Chicago souvenirs. Outside the LEGO store there is a 9 x 20 foot LEGO mosaic of the Chicago skyline – very cool!
For over 75 years Shoreline Sightseeing has been offering experiences perfect for the family or a unique evening out. They offer numerous types of tours, from architecture to fireworks cruises. With boats gliding over the Chicago River and Lake Michigan, you will surely gain a new perspective on the city.
My children, Drew, 10 and Carman, 5 loved our day at the Lego Discovery Center. The young men and women who run each activity are great with kids. We even had the privilege of meeting the Center's lego master builder. My son still says that was his highlight of our trip.
