History of Comerica Park
Comerica Park is a baseball stadium located in Downtown Detroit and has been the home of MLB team, the Detroit Tigers, since its opening in 2000. The Detroit Tigers originally played at Tiger Stadium in the Corktown neighborhood of Detroit but once it became clear they had outgrown their original home, groundbreaking for a new ballpark to replace Tiger Stadium commenced on October 29, 1997. Comerica Bank agreed to pay $66 million over 30 years for the naming rights to the new ballpark and on April 11, 2000 the first game was held with the Detroit Tigers playing the Seattle Mariners.
The main entrance to Comerica Park is located across the street from the Fox Theatre and features a distinctive tiger statue that stands an impressive 15 feet in height. There are 8 other oversized tiger statues throughout the park, including two prowling on top of the scoreboard in left field. 2022 marks the Detroit Tigers’ 122nd season and their 23rd season at Comerica Park.
LEGO® Comerica Park in MINILAND®
MINILAND® Detroit’s 1:200 LEGO® model of Comerica Park has packed the stands with over 400 minifigures. This LEGO recreation consists of 18,000 bricks and took 65 hours to design, build, and animate.
Our version contains a special pinball game that allows visitors to try and score runs for the Tigers! You can try to bat for a single, double, triple, or go for a home run. Our Master Model Builder has only landed a home run once in 6 years of trying out the game.
